Kunststoffe und Kreislaufwirtschaft

Kunststoffe sind energie- und ressourceneffiziente Werkstoffe, Wegbereiter klimaschonender Technologien und nach ihrem ersten Einsatz vielseitig zu verwerten. Wie weit der Werkstoff aktuell im Kreislauf geführt wird, belegt jetzt die neu aufgelegte Stoffstrombildanalyse zu Kunststoff für Deutschland. Neben der Produktion von neuen Kunststoffen wurden hier für das Jahr 2017 erstmals auch detailliert die Mengen der Erzeugung und Verarbeitung von Rezyklaten ermittelt. Das Ergebnis zeigt, dass Recyclingkunststoffe immer mehr zu einer Alternative werden und ein wichtiger Rohstoff für neue Kunststoffprodukte sind. 12,3 Prozent der Kunststoffverarbeitungsmenge in Deutschland werden schon heute durch Rezyklate gedeckt – das entspricht rund 1,8 Mio. Tonnen bei einer Gesamtmenge von 14,4 Mio. Tonnen; diese finden in allen Anwendungsbereichen ihren Einsatz – in hoch technischen Anwendungen wie dem Fahrzeugbau oder dem Elektro-/Elektronikbereich sowie verstärkt in der Landwirtschaft (ca. 35 Prozent), im Baubereich (ca. 21 Prozent) und in Verpackungen (ca. 9 Prozent). Knapp 47 Prozent aller Kunststoffabfälle in Deutschland werden stofflich verwertet. So entstehen aus 6,2 Mio. Tonnen Abfällen insgesamt wieder 1,9 Mio. Tonnen Rezyklate in Deutschland, die in den Wirtschaftskreislauf im In- und Ausland zurückgeführt werden. Die Kunststoffwertschöpfungskette leistet damit einen unverzichtbaren Beitrag zur effizienten und nachhaltigen Nutzung natürlicher Ressourcen und für den Weg in eine zirkuläre Wirtschaft.

Plastics are energy and resource efficient raw materials, key enablers for climate-friendly technologies, and after the first use versatilely exploitable. The latest Material Flow Analysis for Plastics in Germany shows, how far the material currently is circulated. Beside figures about virgin materials also detailed numbers about production and use of recyclates have been evaluated. The results show, that recyclates are becoming increasingly an option, and are already an important raw material for new plastic products. 12.3 percent of the total volume for the production of new goods is covered by recyclates today – this counts for approx. 1.8 million tons out of 14.4 million tons total production volume; these volumes find their use in almost all applications – in highly technical applications like automotive or electrical & electronic, as well as significantly in agriculture (approx. 35 percent), in building and construction (approx. 21 percent) and in packaging (approx. 9 percent). Close to 47 percent of all plastic waste in Germany is recycled. From 6.2 million tons of plastic waste in total are 1.9 million tons of recyclates produced in Germany, which found the way back into the cycle inland and abroad. The plastics value chain provides an essential contribution to an efficient and sustainable use of natural resources and the way into a circular economy.
