Die neue Datenbank der ECHA

Herausforderungen für Hersteller und Recycler

SCIP steht für „substances of concern in products“ und ist eine neue Datenbank, die von der Europäischen Chemikalienbehörde (ECHA) eingerichtet und in allen Mitgliedstaaten zugänglich sein wird. Es ist geplant, diese mit zahlreichen Informationen über „bedenkliche Stoffe“ in Produkten zu füttern. Diese Informationen werden den Entsorgungsunternehmen zur Verfügung gestellt. Die EU-Kommission und die ECHA gehen davon aus, dass Recycler dann wesentlich mehr Informationen als heute darüber haben werden, in welchen Abfällen besorgniserregende Stoffe sind. Ziel der Datenbank ist letztendlich, solche gefährlichen Stoffe endgültig aus dem Wirtschaftskreislauf auszuschleusen und damit dem EU-Kommissionsziel „Tox-Free-Environment“ ein Stück weit näher zu kommen. Losgehen wird es ab Januar 2021.

SCIP stands for „substances of concern in products“ and is a new database that will be set up by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and will be accessible in all Member States. It is planned to feed it with different kind of information on „substances of concern“ in products. This information will be made available to waste management companies. The EU Commission and the ECHA assume that recyclers will then have much more information than today about which waste streams contain substances of very high concern. The ultimate target of the database is to finally remove such hazardous substances from the economic cycle and thus come a step closer to the EU Commission’s goal of a „Tox- Free Environment“. It will start in January 2021.
