Stahlschrott als Teil einer zirkulären Wirtschaft

Im Rahmen einer Studie für die Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Stahlrecycling- und Entsorgungsunternehmen e. V. (BDSV), betrachtete Fraunhofer UMSICHT die technischen, ökonomischen, ökologischen als auch gesellschaftlichen Eigenschaften des Stahlrecyclings in einer literatur- und interviewbasierten Studie. Ziel war es, die wichtigsten Eigenschaften des Sekundärrohstoffs Stahlschrott zusammenzustellen und zukünftige Herausforderungen des Stahlrecyclings vor dem Hintergrund einer zirkulären Wirtschaft abzuleiten. Insgesamt konnten sieben Kernaussagen identifiziert werden, die sowohl die aktuelle als auch die zukünftige Rolle der Stahlschrottbranche darstellen und deren Relevanz unterstreichen. Der vorliegende Artikel greift Teile der Studie auf und stellt die Rolle des Stahlrecyclings in einer zirkulären Wirtschaft dar. Die Stahlschrottbranche ist ein wesentlicher Dienstleister in der Wertschöpfungskette Stahl, stellt in Deutschland einen wesentlichen Standortfaktor für die hiesige Spezialstahlindustrie dar und unterstützt als Rohstofflieferant für die Elektrostahlwerke und Gießereien und ebenso die primärrohstoffbasierte Produktionsroute.

In a study for the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Stahlrecycling- und Entsorgungsunternehmen e. V. (BDSV), Fraunhofer UMSICHT considered the technical, economic, ecological and social characteristics of steel recycling in the framework of a literature- and interview-based study. The study aimed at compiling the most important properties of the secondary raw material steel scrap as well as framing future challenges of the steel recycling against the background of a circular economy. A total of seven core statements were identified, which represent both the current and the future role of the steel industry and emphasize their relevance. The article addresses parts of the study and points out the role of steel recycling in a circular economy. The steel scrap industry is a key service provider for the steel value-added chain and is a major location factor for the local specialty steel industry in Germany. The steel scrap industry supplies electrical steel works and foundries as well as the primary production route.
