Inszenierungen von Entscheidungssituationen im „Fortunatus“

Der Beitragt nimmt die im „Fortunatus“ erzählten Szenen der Begegnung mit Fortuna im wilden Wald sowie der Brautwahl am Hof des Königs von Zypern in den Blick und untersucht sie als genuine Entscheidungssituationen hinsichtlich der aus soziologischer Perspektive relevanten Kriterien von Alternativenauswahl, sozialer Interdependenz, Zeitlichkeit und Kontingenz. Dabei kann aufgezeigt werden, wie die Erzählung den Fokus weg vom Ergebnis hin auf den Prozess des Entscheidens lenkt, was sich in der Geschichte als Umschlag einer Qual nach der Wahl in eine Qual vor der Wahl darstellt. Über strukturelle Bezüge hinaus erweisen sich die Entscheidungssituationen gerade im Ausstellen von Willkür und Kontingenz einerseits sowie im Zusammenspiel von formalisierten und informellen Verfahren zur Kontingenzbewältigung andererseits als narrativ inszeniert, womit das Entscheiden selbst in Reflexion gerät. Im Roman lassen sich so differenzierte Handlungsmuster sich historisch wandelnder Kulturen des Entscheidens ausmachen.

This article takes scenes from “Fortunatus” which describe the encounter with Fortuna in the wild forest and the bride's choice at the court of the King of Cyprus and examines them as genuine decision-making situations with regard to the relevant sociological criteria of alternative choices, social interdependence, temporality and contingency. It is shown how the narrative focus moves away from the outcome towards to the process of decision making, which in the story is seen as a switch from the agony after the choice to the agony before the choice. In addition to structural elements, the decision-making situations are presented in the narrative in examples of arbitrariness and contingency the one hand and in the interaction of formal and informal processes for dealing with contingency on the other, which leads to reflection on the process of decision making itself. In the novel we can thus observe differentiated behavioural patterns of historically changing cultures of decision making.
