Lydia Kokkola: Representing the Holocaust in Children’s Literature (Children’s Literature and Culture, 26).

Lydia Kokkola’s comprehensive study is part of the international Children’s Literature and Culture series edited by Jack Zipes. The main addressees are literary scholars in the field of children’s literature as well as teachers and librarians who might want to use children’s books on the subject of the Holocaust in educational situations. The book pays tribute to the upsurge in critical and theoretical discussion of so-called Holocaust literature during the last twenty years and transfers well-known arguments by for example, Theodor Adorno, George Steiner, Hayden White and Maria Nikolajeva to the field of children’s literature asking the important question how the ‘unspeakable’ can be represented.
