How to Do Cultural Studies: Ideas, Approaches, Scenarios. Ed. Jürgen Kramer and Bernd Lenz . Würzburg: Königshausen & Neumann, 2020.

It is fair to say – as is the premise of this collected volume – that the study of Anglistik in Germany has in the past decades been significantly shaped by the influence of Cultural Studies, a field that has worked its way well towards the mainstream of the discipline. All the more surprisingly, there remains uncertainty about its status, main objectives, core themes and methods. Consequently, six years after the 2014 BritCult’s self-reflexive conference under the motto of “Cultural Studies and Its Discontents” and the eponymous issue of the Journal for the Study of British Cultures, some of the leading scholars of (British) Cultural Studies in Germany have assessed the current state of the field and asked, once again, “how does one teach Cultural Studies effectively […]?”
