Filiationsfiktionen und Autorinnenschaft. Drostes ‚Walther‘

The article examines Annette von Droste-Hülshoff’s first epic poem ‘Walther’ (1818) as a trauma cycle that stages family history as a crisis story. To this end, it analyzes dream sequences as well as two fetishized objects that act as ciphers of trauma within the family narrative while also pointing towards a crisis of patriarchal masculinity. Moreover, the article focuses on paratexts of ‘Walther’ as sites of auctorial negotiations, textual genealogies and fictions of filiation.
